Market Report: Oscillating FTSE 100 heads higher

The FTSE 100 continues to oscillate in a narrow range adding 52 points to 6,259 helped by Unilever’s numbers and coronavirus vaccine optimism.

Unilever PLC (LON:ULVR) kept its interim dividend flat and revealed it will sell its tea brands PG Tips, Lipton and Brooke Bond and all its tea estates. The disposal process begins immediately and should conclude by the end of next year.

British Airways has agreed to fewer pilot redundancies though they will get less pay and do more part-time work. BA pilots will hold a consultation on whether to accept the proposals.

Electric car maker Tesla is on course for the S&P 500 after posting a profit for the fourth quarter in a row. Earnings were US$104m (£82m) in the three months to June.

Home musicians have given some cheer to Gear4Music if not the neighbours. Sales in the three months to the end of June were up 68% as people splurged on musical instruments during lockdown.

Symphony Environmental's (LON:SYM) antimicrobial technology has been tested as effective against bovine coronavirus (COVID-19). Its d2p product has been designed to be embedded in the plastic so it won't wear off.

Greatland Gold PLC (LON:GGP) has released more strong exploration results at the Havieron deposit in Western Australia. Extension drilling has unearthed a new zone of higher-grade breccia mineralisation.
